Volunteers Roles

TECHNICAL AREA:

The volunteers in this area will perform their duties in the event’s and training’s official facilities during the duration of the event, both in the stadium and in the events taking place outside the stadium.


OPERATIONS AND SERVICES:

VOLUNTEERS
– Volunteers will support the managers of the different functional areas.

Several tasks will need to be accomplished to ensure the event is correctly organised.

Assistance to volunteers, clothes and material distribution, provisioning, transport, information...

ACCREDITATION – Volunteers will collaborate with accreditation issuing to all staff involved in the event, solving related problems that might arise. The work will start a few days prior to the event. For some of the positions, IT skills and/or speaking English will be necessary. 

MEDICAL SERVICES – Volunteers will collaborate with the medical staff. Medical skills and/or a degree in a medicine-related subject will be required (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, massage therapists...)


ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT AREA:

ACCOMMODATION – Volunteers will collaborate with the organisation’s hotels, from the arrival until the departure of the athletics family. A good command of English will be required. Another duty will involve providing information at the organisation’s information desk, and solving problems arising during their stay at the hotel.

Arrival and departure transportation will also need to be coordinated.

TRANSPORTATION – Volunteers will work in the airport, train stations, hotels and official facilities. They will start a few days before the event starts, depending on when the athletics family arrives, and will finish when they leave.

Official vehicle drivers/volunteers will need to have had their driving licence type B for at least 2 years.

They will welcome, accompany, inform and transfer the assistants each time they arrive and leave.


COMMUNICATION AND PUBLICATION AREA

Volunteers will assist the media covering the event, giving them information on the results, start list, press releases...

Volunteers will guide the media to the assigned areas. They will help in organising and setting up conferences and press conferences...

They will support the reprographics area.

They will cover athletes’ statements after their performance, in the mixed zone.

For some of the positions, a good command of English will be required. Some knowledge of communications and journalism would be desirable.


MARKETING AND PROMOTION AREA

Volunteers will help in placing and distributing advertising material in assigned areas.

They will help to liaise with sponsors.

They will assist with the Championship’s promotional events


ADMINSTRATION AREA

Volunteers will assist in controlling the grandstand and providing information to the general public.


PROTOCOL AND CEREMONIES AREA

Volunteers will assist in managing the invitations (sending, confirmations, making lists).

They will assist, accompany, and inform celebrities and authorities in the airport, hotel and in the facilities.

They will provide support in different areas in VIP zones.

They will help to set up and organise meetings, receptions and other social activities.

They will assist during the medal ceremonies, and opening and closing ceremonies (finding the winning sportsmen and women, control of trophies and medals).

A good command of English will be required. Having certain knowledge of protocol, revitalization techniques and event organisation would be desirable.


TECHNOLOGY AREA

Volunteers will provide support in IT and telecommunications.

They will help to assemble and dismantle technological equipment.
