Lolo Jones donates race winnings to Iowa flood victims
Barcelona will be the next stop for the American athlete Lolo Jones after having won the Trials in the US, where she managed to achieve the best result of the year in the 100m Hurdles (12.45). She had also run with an incredible time of 12.29, although with a favourable wind.
However, the real gesture of the Des Moines hurdler during this competition was not the results she obtained on the track, but her decision to donate the cash prize to those affected by the recent flooding in the State of Iowa. According to www.gazette.com, the indoor world champion donated 4,000 dollars and encouraged her main sponsors (Asics and Oakley) to do the same, raising 12,000 dollars in total.
Jones, who at the moment is living in Louisiana, regretted not having been able to help the victims of Katrina, as at that time she had insufficient funds to be able to donate to humanitarian causes. Now she has had the opportunity to demonstrate her generosity and humanity.
Lolo Jones is one of the favourite candidates for the gold medal in the Olympic Games in Beijing, together with Swede Susanna Kallur, Jamaicans Brigitte Foster Hylton and Delloreen Ennis-London, and the Spaniard Josephine Onyia, with whom she will compete in the Olympic Stadium of Montjuïc in Barcelona.
