Frequently Asked Questions
1. APPLICATION
I have already helped with events of the organisation, do I need to fill in this application again?
Yes, you will need to fill in the form. With it, we will get to know you a little better, ascertain your availability and assess what you can do as a volunteer.
When will I know if I have been selected as a volunteer?
The selection procedure will take a few months. You can find out more about the procedure stages in the Volunteer Procedure section.
You will be considered as B10 Volunteer when you complete the training and the interview. At that point, you will know which task you will carry out during the Championships.
I have a friend or family member who is also interested in becoming a volunteer, what do they need to do?
All candidates interested in becoming a B10 Volunteer will need to fill in the online form. They can access it from www.bcn2010.org
I live in another province; can I still become a volunteer?
Of course, the European Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010 is open to everyone. However, the applicants from outside Barcelona, will need to find accommodation during the days of the event, as well as transport to the city. The organisation will try to find other volunteers who would like to accommodate colleagues.
What happens after I send my application?
Once you send your application, we will contact you to let you know the date and time of your interview. If you are selected, you will need to pass a police security check – you won’t need to do anything for this stage as it is a routine procedure that is always undertaken for big events. Once we receive clearance, you will be given a position and some specific training, before becoming part of the 2010 Volunteer Team. This will give you the right to receive your accreditation and uniform to be able to carry out your tasks.
2. REQUIREMENTS AND OBLIGATIONS
What steps do I need to follow to become a B10 volunteer?
See Volunteer Procedures.
Once my post has been assigned, will I be able to change it?
Due to the complexity of organising a team of about 3,000 people in numerous facilities and with multiple activities, as a general rule, it’s not possible to change the post that has been assigned to you. However, individual cases may be considered.
What is the time commitment of a B10 volunteer?
The European Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010 will take place from 26 July to 1 August 2010. Volunteers committed to the event will need to be available for the duration of the whole Championship and, in some cases, before the event as well.
The practical training for all Volunteers will take place during the test events: Athletics Meeting Ciutat de Barcelona and the Spanish Athletics Championship.
A volunteer’s typical working day will last between 6 to 8 hours, including breaks.
I am not available on the Championship’s dates; can I still send my application form?
All candidates are welcome to send their applications. However, preference will be given to those who are available to assist the organisation during the duration of the Championships.
How old do I need to be to become a volunteer?
All those who want to become volunteers of the European Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010 must be at least 18 years-old at the start of the event. In some cases and for very specific tasks, under-18s (14 to 17) will be able to participate as volunteers providing they have a signed authorisation from their father/mother/tutor. There is no maximum age to become a volunteer.
INTERVIEW
I’m not from Barcelona; where will the interviews take place?
All interviews will take place in the Championship’s headquarters. For candidates coming from other regions or from abroad, each case will be considered individually.

Your enthusiasm and a good mood
3. TRAINING
What does the training involve and where will take place?
Check the Training chapter.
Do I have to attend the training?
Yes, it is absolutely imperative for all those who want to be a part of B10. The training will give you the minimum necessary skills to be able carry out your tasks during the Championships. It is a key element to achieving a successful event.
What happens if I cannot attend the training on the day that I was told?
In that case, providing it is for reasons beyond your control, you can contact the volunteer service on +34 93 325 18 74 and we will try to find you another date.
Where will the training take place?
Almost all sessions will take place in the Olympic Stadium.

You will need to complete the same form indicating what your preferences are.
Can I choose my position as a Volunteer?
The tasks assigned to each Volunteer will depend on their availability, skills, and experience.
How can I learn more about the work that I will need to do?
After being assigned a position, you will complete some specific training that will tell you everything about your tasks.
What is the difference between being a Friend of B10 or a B10 Volunteer?
Everyone who registers on the website and completes the form will immediately become a Friend of B10. Once you pass the interview and carry out the training, you will become a B10 Volunteer and be a part of the 2010 Team.
