25/06/2009
The Major of Barcelona Jordi Hereu has gathered today the 57 majors of the municipalities of the province of Barcelona who have signed the collaboration agreement with the European Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010 in an event that has been used to visualise the unanimous support of the Barcelona's local administrations to the event. Antoni Fogué, President of the Barcelona Provincial Council, has also been present in the event that has been celebrated in the Palacete Albéniz.
Hereu, who has referred to Barcelona 2010 as "a project and a shared desire", has been very pleased with the great response of the majors of the province. Likewise, the town councillors and the councillors of the different administrations have attended the event as well as Pere Alcober, President of the Executive Committee of Barcelona 2010, Monica Barra, General Coordinator, and Romà Cuyàs, President of the Federació Catalana d´Atletisme.
The Major has emphasised the importance of the support of Barcelona's cities and he has used the concept of a municipal net in order to place a record, of the enormous power they have when they are united. "One thing is the international promotion of Barcelona through the great events and another one is the internal promotion, what we would not be able to deal without you”, he explained.
Likewise Hereu has highlighted a phrase from the baron Pierre de Coubertin, that was pronounced in a visit of the first President of the International Olympic Committee to Barcelona, in 1926, in which he explained that until the time he came to the Condal City he did not really know what a city devoted to sports was.
"It is an event of support and recognition", Fogué has said. "Of support to a sports event of great importance and of recognition to Barcelona and its major who once more, evidence the leadership they have shown in so many occasions at the time of organising an international event", has added the President of the Barcelona Regional Council, who has highlighted in his intervention the enormous capacity municipalities have in Barcelona.
Pere Alcober has confirmed that there have been 57 municipalities the ones which have signed the collaboration agreement and he has thanked them all for their each time closer links with the organisation of Barcelona 2010.
During the event it has been officially launched the new promotional video of Barcelona 2010.
