Mercedes Chilla will be the image of the second Barcelona 2110 advertising campaign

11/06/2009

The Javelin thrower Mercedes Chilla, bronze medal in the last edition of the European Athletics Championships celebrated in Goteborg and six times Spanish champion in this speciality, will be the main character of the second advertising campaign of Barcelona 2010. Chilla will substitute Angel David Rodríguez, whose image running in the middle of the Exiample in Barcelona has been the first one that has been used by the organisation to launch the campaign of bringing athletics closer to the citizen.

From the confidence of this kind of images will make the complex code of records and times this sports has more understandable, Barcelona 2010 and the designers of the campaign, Estudi Virgili, pretend to bring "athletics closer to citizens". Next to Chilla, there will be an outstanding figure of the current Javelin World record (72,28m), which is the distance that separates the Colon statue from Santa Monica in Las Ramblas, the most emblematic street in Barcelona.

In order to achieve its objectives, the authors try to link some of the most outstanding records from the current table with the distances we handle in daily life. After the campaign organised by Chilla, it will be the Pole Vault's turn, female category (5,05m, that is the measure of the modernist lamp posts on the Paseo de Gràcia), and the Triple Jump female category as well (15,50m, that is the length of the municipal buses).

A total of 2,300 pennants on their B side will be put again at the service of the event in this second wave of the campaign, devoted to Javelin. In addition, the image of Chilla will appear in advertising billboards.

Chilla participated last night in the Iberoamerican Meeting celebrated in Huelva and she got the victory in the event with a new Spanish season best: 61,76m. This mark has placed her in the 10th position on the 2009 European ranking list.
