30/06/2009
Alexandra Panayotou has already covered a distance of more than 1,500 kilometers and is only one week away from crossing the finish line of her amazing challenge in the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys de Montjuïc. She has been running for more than three weeks now (she left Montjuïc on June 6th) and will return to Catalunya entering Lleida, where she will receive an incredible acceptance. The Greek athlete has passed through half of Spain in order to promote Barcelona 2010.
The project of running 2010 kilometers in only one month is almost accomplished. After the ordeal through the Levante area, the boiling heat in Aragón, the visits of Barcelona 2010 mascot Barni, the company of Martín Fiz in Vitoria and her mother’s attendance in Huesca, Panayotou is now about to reach the peak of her masterstroke.
The remaining agenda of the Greek runner’s adventure, who maintains her rhythm of 70 kilometers a day, is as follows:
June 30th Monte Julia - Lleida
July 1st Lleida - Agramunt
July 2nd Agramunt - Valmania
July 3rd Valmania - Santpedor
July 4th Santpedor - Viladrau
July 5th Viladrau – Lloret de Mar
July 6th Lloret de Mar- Barcelona
The program has been slightly changed. Alexandra wants to avoid huge traffic in the big cities to guarantee for her own safety, better access as well as parking possibilities, since the athlete herself is accompanied by a caravan. A different finish appears in the new plan, where José Luis Blanco, European Silver medalist over 3000m Steeplechase, will accompany her with a group of local runners for a distance of at least 10 kilometers.
