The refurbishment process of the stadium will be the main goal of the 2009 Meeting Ciutat de Barcelona

The Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys has been the home of an athletics event once more. The organisation of the Meeting has achieved the objective of having the setting in very good  working conditions but the great refurbishment process, planned face to the European Athletics Championships Barcelona 2010, is very demanding, it requires much more; so, probably the following edition of the Meeting will be celebrated while this process is taking place.

The Meeting will be celebrated in 2009 on a historical date, 25 July, but probably, by that date, the refurbishment process has been already begun because in the agenda of the RCD Espanyol (this is the football team that uses the stadium twice a month), it has been planned to go to Cornellà during the first trimester of 2009.

After having had the façade of the stadium just painted, now it needs a complete renovation of its internal structures and also of a new synthetic main track. The aim of the Organising Committee Barcelona 2010 is to adapt the stadium to the needs and services of the Championships in order to have it ready and splendorous in two years time.
